The Modesto OpenAir Temporary Outdoor Dining Initiative is a response to Governor Newsom’s July 1, 2020 and Stanislaus County Public Health order of July 13, 2020 prohibiting indoor food service. Restaurants may use this opportunity to expand seating outdoors to remain open while mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
Businesses wishing to participate in the OpenAir initiative need to complete and submit an OpenAir Application.
Winter is coming and the City of Modesto wants to hear from you, especially if you are a restaurant or beverage service business offering outdoor service. What are your plans as the weather cools down and gets wet? Take the Winter is Coming OpenAir Survey now. Thank you!
Temporary J Street Restriping for OpenAir Parklets
On September 22, 2020 the City Council approved implementation of a temporary street restriping concept on J Street from 9th Street through 13th St. The restriping concept will increase the amount of space available for outdoor dining and retail activity. Click on the image below to see in more detail.
Restriping will occur between Friday, September 25, 2020 and Friday, October 2, 2020. The City will use its best efforts to minimize disruption to businesses in the restriping area.
How will the added outdoor space be used?
This project extends the OpenAir outdoor initiative. Modesto businesses have demonstrated they are creative and determined to succeed despite the challenges brought by COVID-19 restrictions. This project's added commercial outdoor space provides opportunities for more of that creativity and determination to shine. All affected businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the program with an OpenAir application.
